* Do the reflexive anaphoric words {{t|áq}}, {{t|chéq}} refer to the subject of the current (sub)clause or do they always go back to the matrix clause? Here is a list of questions that have been asked about official Toaq for which the reference grammar does not provide a clear answer, along with their resolutions if they are known. This list is incomplete; you can help by expanding it.

Unresolved questions

  • Do lu constructs work as high adverbs or low adverbs when placed in t6 and t7?
  • In the sentence She dûa jí mâı súq jí cy cy, jêo róu da., does róu access the inner content clause or the outer one?
    • I suspect that it’s the outer rising-falling tone phrase that c-commands róu, and not the inner phrase, which makes the whole phrase tautological. I recommend hoı in such scenarios. uakcitalk
  • Can áq and chéq be used before the x1 slot, e.g. are sentences like Kuq còu áq nháo valid?
    • I am wont to say that Toaq anaphoras should only be allowed to go “back” – that is, that they must not be epiphoras. We could imagine kuq còu nháo áq as an interesting usage where it’s the còu phrase that takes subject/head position. uakcitalk
  • Does a genitival serial construction narrow down the x₂ of the head verb or fill it, removing it in the process? That is to say, does chuq rỏehuı expand to ‘___ eats junk food ___’ or just ‘___ eats junk food’? uakci 21:50, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
  • Do the reflexive anaphoric words áq, chéq refer to the subject of the current (sub)clause or do they always go back to the matrix clause? This is quite an important underspecification given that áq must be used in place of other anaphoric predicates whenever possible. uakci 13:51, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
